Alexis Turkalo

I was born in Marseille, France. My parents were Ukrainian, rescued by the US Army in April, 1945 from a Nazi work camp in Germany. So, I have the distinction of having parents who were tormented by both Stalin and Hitler.

We immigrated to the USA (New York City) when I was 9 months old. I grew up first in New York City (Queens), and after 2nd grade, in Rockland County New York (Tappan Zee High School).

My major interests in school were always Math and Science, but my love of music apparently trumped that, and I got a degree in Music Theory at Syracuse University, and grad degrees (including PhD) at Michigan State University.

My major interests outside music are Chess, New York Yankees, Astronomy and History (especially Military History).
